Shopify has unveiled its new agentic commerce platform, enabling merchants to connect directly with AI-driven conversations across the web. In partnership with Google, Shopify also introduced the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), designed to make AI-powered checkouts seamless and frictionless.

Key Highlights

Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP)

UCP allows complete transactions to happen directly inside AI interfaces. This includes advanced commerce features such as discount codes, subscriptions, and full checkout flows—no matter which platform the conversation happens on.

Agentic Commerce for All Brands

With the new agentic plan, even non-Shopify brands can integrate their product catalogs into AI systems, opening up AI-driven sales without migrating to Shopify.

Live Across Major AI Platforms

The system is already live in Google AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and ChatGPT, with early adopters including well-known brands like Gymshark.

Why This Matters

Shopping is moving out of traditional websites and directly into conversational AI. Customers can now discover products, ask questions, and complete purchases without leaving the chat—marking a major shift in how ecommerce works.
